Pirati attaccano pescherecci al largo delle coste della Somalia

Rota, Spagna. 23 aprile 2019 – Il 21 aprile, i pescherecci FV Adria e FV Txori Argi sono stati attaccati da sospetti pirati nell’Oceano Indiano, 280 NM al largo della Somalia. Gli attacchi alla pirateria sono stati vanificati, e l’equipaggio e le navi sono rimasti al sicuro, grazie all’applicazione delle misure di protezione Best Management Practices (BMP) da parte dei Comandanti, degli equipaggi e delle squadre di sicurezza private imbarcate su entrambi i pescherecci.

EU NAVFOR Somalia “Operazione Atalanta” conferma questi attacchi. È probabile che gli attacchi siano stati facilitati da una nave madre, che sarebbe stata sequestrata da uomini armati il 19 aprile al largo delle Coste della Somalia centrale.

Successivamente, la UE NAVFOR ha inviato i suoi aeromobili per la sorveglianza marittima e la ricognizione per effettuare ricerche nell’area. Inoltre, l’ammiraglia della UE NAVFOR ESPS Navarra ha lasciato il porto di Mombasa per raggiungere la zona.

Il 23 aprile la ESPS NAVARRA ha intercettato e imbarcato con successo il dhow utilizzato come nave madre.

L’operazione è ancora in corso e ulteriori dettagli saranno forniti al completamento.

EU NAVFOR rimane impegnata a scoraggiare, prevenire e sopprimere la pirateria e sottolinea che l’industria marittima deve aderire alle misure BMP al fine di massimizzare la sicurezza della nave e dei suoi equipaggi mentre transitano nella zona ad alto rischio.

PIRACY ATTACK OFF THE COAST OF SOMALIA

Yemeni hostages safely released after four days

Rota, Spain. 23 April 2019 – On 21 April, fishing vessels FV Adria and FV Txori Argi were attacked by suspected pirates in the Indian Ocean, 280 NM off the coast of Somalia. The piracy attacks were thwarted, and the crew and vessels remained safe, thanks to the application of Best Management Practices (BMP) protection measures by the Masters, the crews and the private security teams embarked on both fishing vessels.

EU NAVFOR Somalia Operation Atalanta confirms these attacks. It is likely that the attacks were facilitated by a mothership, which was reportedly seized by armed men on 19 April off the central Somali Coast.

EU NAVFOR subsequently dispatched its Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircrafts to search the area. In addition, EU NAVFOR flagship ESPS Navarra left the port in Mombasa in order to proceed into the area.

On 23 April, ESPS NAVARRA successfully intercepted and boarded the dhow being used as a mothership.

The operation is still ongoing, and more details will be provided upon completion.
