Mogadishu – Toyota, the world’s largest automotive manufacturer, officially opened its first car dealership after 27 years in the Somali capital and plans to expand soon throughout Somalia. A positive signal for investments in Somalia

The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Monday, May 7 in the presence of the Minister for Trade in Somalia, Mohamed Abdi Hayir, who declared:

“We welcome the company’s decision to reopen its office in Mogadishu after 30 years. This is part of the reliable investment which returned after a long time. The firm will create jobs for the Somali people and play a very important role in the restoration and improving Somalia’s economy. Our policy is based on improving the economy, therefore, it is not only Toyota company which plans reopen establish an office in Somalia but there are many other big companies on their way to open offices in the country, We hope that the productions in Somalia will be sold in many markets”.

To conclude the agreement with Toyota it took 12 months but it was an important step because currently in Somalia you can buy only second-hand vehicles or through the import market with very high costs.
